US participation in DefExpo to reflect commitment to defence ties with India

The DefExpo 2018, to be held near Chennai between April 11-14, will see a large and diverse delegation from the United States, including active duty military officers, government officials and industry executives, to demonstrate the country’s commitment to the US-India defence partnership.

The US Government delegation will be led by Kenneth I Juster, US Ambassador to India, and Major General Bryan Suntheimer, Deputy Commanding General of US Army Pacific.

“The US designation of India as a Major Defence Partner marked a milestone in US-India defence cooperation,” said Ambassador Juster, adding, “President Trump and Prime Minister Modi are driving forward this Major Defence Partnership and our broader strategic relationship with a shared vision for peace, security, and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region.”

The US and India are building a dynamic defence relationship together through the Defence Technology and Trade Initiative, military exercises, official visits and exchanges, and the sales of military systems and platforms.

In addition, the US defence industry has demonstrated its commitment to partnering with India to provide the highest quality, most reliable, and most technologically-advanced defence equipment and systems in the world.

Nineteen US companies will exhibit at this year’s Def Expo, with many more participating in the mega event. A number of these companies have operated in India for years, while others are new in the market.

Ajay Kumar, Secretary, Department of Defence Production, the organiser of the expo, said that there are 47 official delegations participating at the expo.

“Of this, 18-20 are ministerial level delegations and around 20 countries have large delegations. Ministerial level delegations are from countries including USA, UK, Afghanistan, and many other countries – this indicates a rich diversity in international participation,” said Kumar.
