School Education Department Secretary (Curriculum) T Udhayachandran told DT Next on Thursday that online sales of the textbooks will also begin shortly. “New textbooks will be distributed directly to the students once the schools reopen,” he said, adding that e-textbooks will also be uploaded on the website shortly.

Sources from Tamil Nadu Text Book and Educational Services Corporation (TNTB&ESC), which has been entrusted with the distribution and sale of text books, said free textbooks are directly delivered by the printers at nodal schools, identified by the Director of School Education and the Director of Elementary Education, from where it will be distributed to the schools.

A senior official said new textbooks for classes 2, 3, 4, 5, 8 and 12 will also be distributed to the schools, adding that the sale copies of textbooks will be supplied through online sales, common service centres, retain sales counters and licensed retailers.

“The list of licenced retailers across all the districts will be uploaded in the website shortly”, the official said. A distribution sales emporium will be functioning at the TNTB&ESC’s building in DPI Campus to facilitate the students and parents to get their requirement of all textbooks for Classes 1 to 12 of state board syllabus and minority language books of Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada Urdu, Sanskrit and Arabic at one place,” he said. He said Tamil text books from Class 1 to 12 are being supplied free to the Tamil students studying in the states of Delhi, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
